Iron Hawk CrossFit Intramural Open October 10 2019- November 8 2019
WHAT IS THE CROSSFIT OPEN?
Each year CrossFit Headquarters hosts an online, global 5 week event called The CrossFit Open. For 5 weeks, starting Thursday October 10th, a workout will be released. All athletes have until the following Monday evening to complete and enter their score.
While the 5 weeks is used by the CrossFit Games to identify and eventually crown the fittest man, woman, and team on Earth, it’s an amazing opportunity for all of us.
For us the Open is all about having fun. We’re not interested in finding out how fast you can exercise against 400,000 other people worldwide. We ARE interested in helping you push to new levels in fitness, level up your life, and get 1000 high fives from the Iron Hawk CrossFit family!
Can we bring that worldwide thrill home? Can we deliver all the fun of competition without causing any anxiety attacks? We think so.
The Intramural Open is quickly becoming tradition at IHCF as it is tradition in thousands of other Boxes worldwide!
We’ll divide you up into three or four teams, each with a Team Captain and a funny name.
You can earn points for your team by participating (most points) winning an event (second-most points) and showing the most spirit during events.
Simple – Sign up on the whiteboard at the gym and we will add your name to the IHCF Open, Pay $20 for a team shirt (optional)
Then Click Here to register your name on the CrossFit Games website. That’s where you’ll submit your scores weekly - which will let us know to give you a point! The cost is $20 and goes to CrossFit Headquarters. Trust us – it’ll be well worth it for the 5 weeks.
HOW DO WE SCORE POINTS?
Each week, teams accumulate points in a few ways: 4 POINTS POSSIBLE FOR EVERY ATHLETE, 7 POINTS POSSIBLE FOR TOP 3 IN EACH DIVISION!
They earn 1 point for every athlete that enters their score
They earn 1 points for DOING the workout
They earn 1 point for LOGGING their scores
They earn 3 points for every athlete that places in the top 3 of their division : Rx or Scaled
They earn 1 points if they show Team Spirit! CHEER! CLAP! ENCOURAGE!
At the end of the 5 weeks, scores are totaled and the team with the largest score wins!
If you enter your score and help your team win spirit points you’re getting points for your team!
You don’t have to worry about not being the fittest or holding your team back, it won't happen! Your score for the workout doesn’t have anything to do with the score you get for your team.
ALL skill levels can participate…there are Rx, Scaled, Teens, and even Masters (50+) versions of the workouts. The workouts are just like our usual WODs but even more fun and challenging!
The Workouts are released every Thursday night during the open beginning on Thursday 10/10/2019! We will drop the workout in the IHCF Members facebook group as soon as we know what they are!
Every Friday during the Open our schedule will be a little different! Regularly scheduled classes will be canceled and we will host “Friday Night Lights”. Heats will begin at 4 pm (warm up at 3:45) and we will run heats on the hour until everyone has worked out! You will be able to sign up for your preferred heat time in Zen planner!
DO I HAVE TO COME TO FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS?
No, you do not have to attend Friday Night Lights to participate, but this is where the magic happens so you will not want to miss it! If you do have to miss we understand, you will just have to arrange for a judge to help you with the Open WOD during open Gym on Saturday, or Monday so that you can submit your score by Monday night!
WHY PARTICIPATE IF I HAVE NO CHANCE AT WINNING?
There are so many reasons.
It’s fun…no really, it is. During these 5 weeks there is an energy in the gym that is hard to replicate the remainder of the year. When we get together for Friday Night Lights. 50+ people take turns giving it their all and then cheering on everyone else afterwards. The music is pumping, sweat is dripping, and cheers are flowing.
You will surprise yourself. Magic happens at the OPEN! I’ve seen people that struggle with single unders get their first double under. I’ve seen PRs on squats, presses, box jumps, and muscle ups. Most importantly, I see just about everyone say – “I can’t believe I just did that.”
It’s a benchmark for where YOU are. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter one bit where you finish vs. everyone else. It matters what your scores are today vs. your scores tomorrow. One of my favorite moments is repeating workouts from the previous year. I get to see athletes that are one more year into their fitness journey smash their old scores. They are always overcome with pride and renewed motivation to keep going. Had they not done the open – they would miss that experience.
SO THAT’S IT FOLKS! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR! LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!
